Favorite Climbers

(Loni'cera; Lonice'ra). Leaf-losing (or rarely evergreen) shrubs and climbers, many of them hardy; the fragrant honeysuckles are natives of Europe, North America, and Asia—particularly central and northern Asia.

Ladybugs

Ladybugs, or lady beetles, are a very beneficial group of insects; a single lady beetle may consume as many as 5,000 aphids in its lifetime.

Sweet Solitude:

"The great man is he who in the midst of the crowd keeps with perfect sweetness the independence of solitude" wrote Ralph Waldo Emerson, who knew well that such strength of character is nurtured by time spent alone. For it is away from prying eyes that we find the courage to try our hands at painting, to dabble at poetry, and to indulge our imaginations. —Victoria Magazine, Janurary 1990, page 42

A Place for Quietude

"A room where one sleeps and dreams and grieves and rejoices becomes inseparably connected with those processes and aquires a personality of its own. This room is not a pretty or dainty one, but it has always been a retreat for me, the one spot where I might be alone and possess my soul in quietness...." — L.L. Montgomery, author of Anne of Green Gables
